昨天百度到一个牌例,是加州的棕榈泉的报纸《》上的专栏文章。专栏名为:Win at Bridge。于是就往前翻年这报纸的电子版,发现最早的一篇是发表是1963年4月25日(未确认是否有更早的),当时的专栏名为:Winning Contract。

By HOWARD SCHENKCN and RICHARD L. FREY

Difficulties often arise because players have insufficient knowledge or understanding of the laws. More rarely a player who docknow ihe laws may try to take ar. unfair advantage of his knowledge. This deal shows how this was possible under the old laws,

A player who is non-vulnerablc < |against vulnerable opponents is in ( an ideal position for preemptive ( action, and South had no hesitation ! in bidding tour spades. With a sure seven tricks in his hand and a possible eighth, this would be t the right bid at any score except I perhaps vulnerable against non-i vulnerable, I As the cards lie East-West ran even make 11 tricks in a heart i

| contract, but tins requires considerable luck. Against four spades, West led the diamond jack and East took two diamond tricks He shitted to the heart queen, and South ruffed the second round of hearts. The contract clearly depends up the club finesse, and South could well announce that he would draw trumps and play the finesse. Ihe finesse would lose and he would be down one. However. South ran all his trumps with some half-formed idea of a squeeze. When he led a club at the 12th trick towards dummy’s ace-queen East showed his guaidcd king and claimed that South was down one. But South insisted, to the fury of East-West, that East’s cards were exposed and that he could require the king to be dropped under the ace This was technically right but ethically wrong under die aid laws: the correct procedure was for East to show his cards to declarer only. Under the new laws, effective May Ist, it is West’s cards, nm East’s, which are treated as penalty cards in such circumstances, and South has no opponuntty for legal chicanery. With both sides vulnerable South deals ar.d bids one no trump. West holds: S: K 0 I 10 fi 3 11. K 0 J 10 fi 3 D;-~C; 7. W'hat should he bid? Answe, here tomorrow (A Bell-McClure Syndicate Feature)
